John Voight (University of California, Berkeley) Moduli of elliptic curves and algebraic stacks

Abstract: Algebraic stacks are a natural generalization of schemes which are applicable to questions of moduli. In this talk, we will give an elementary introduction to algebraic stacks beginning from category theory and apply it to the theory of moduli of elliptic curves with level structure.
