James Lewis (University of Alberta): Abel-Jacobi maps associated to algebraic cycles II
Abstract:
(Work in progress with Matt Kerr) In practise, it is often desirable to have a description of the Abel-Jacobi map for general varieties (not necessarily smooth or complete, particularly with regard to degeneration arguments). I will explain one instance of this map in the smooth quasiprojective case, and show how this plays a role in constructing higher normal functions. I will then show how these normal functions in an arithmetical setting can be used to construct a candidate Bloch-Beilinson filtration on the higher Chow groups of a projective algebraic manifold.
