Robin de Jong: Introduction to Faltings heights.

Abstract:

This will be the first of a series of lectures around the theme `bounding the Faltings height through covers'. We give the definition and fundamental properties of the Faltings height, drawing inspiration from the case of curves over function fields. At the end we discuss possible strategies for obtaining suitable bounds for this height.
