The Thomas Stieltjes Institute for Mathematics has ceased to exist in 2011. On January 1, 2011, the Stieltjes Institute has merged into a single national research school together with two other mathematical institutions in the Netherlands: the MRI (the Mathematical Research Institute) and EIDMA (the Euler Institute for Discrete Mathematics and Applications). The new Dutch Research School in Mathematics will be called WONDER (Wiskunde ONDERzoekschool Nederland).
The Thomas Stieltjes Institute for Mathematics, founded on November 12, 1992, is a Dutch research institute in mathematics and carries out research in four main areas of fundamental and applied mathematics:
- Algebra & Geometry
- Analysis
- Stochastics
- Operation Research
